Hotta Studio and Perfect World Games detailed version 1.4 of NTE: Neverness to Everness, subtitled "For Whom the Verses Mourn," during a preview special program that aired on September 16, 2026 at 19:30 (UTC+8) on the game's official YouTube and Twitch channels. The update is scheduled to go live on September 30, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS and Android, with cross-progression across those platforms.
What's new in NTE version 1.4
New story content
The official broadcast confirmed a new Main Episode called "The Witch," in which Blackbird asks Eibon for help with a case that only she can handle. Version 1.4 also adds a spinoff storyline titled "To Us, Back Then."
Two new limited S-Class characters
Version 1.4 introduces two limited S-Class Espers:
- Blackbird, a Psyche-type Main DPS Esper who fights with Gas Arcs and can transform into a bird to move through the open world.
- Akane Rin, a Lakshana Esper who uses Liquid Arcs.
According to the preview program, Blackbird's banner runs first alongside a rerun of Lacrimosa, followed by Akane Rin's banner second. The current Linko banner is set to run until September 29, 2026, the day before version 1.4 launches.
New areas
The update opens Pukaland, previously an inaccessible funfair-style theme park in Hethereau, now filled with attractions, discoveries and rewards, including a Haunted Mansion sub-area. Version 1.4 also adds St. Arbor, a new Location Anomaly.
New Anomaly Commissions and vehicles
Hotta Studio also confirmed new Anomaly Commissions around Hethereau, including a late-night encounter built around waiting for a "Ghost Bus" alongside unusual passengers, and a commission that has players searching inside a dream for a hidden anomaly while avoiding monsters. Two new Porsche vehicles are also being added to the game.
Events
The Pukaland Travelogue event runs from September 30 to November 11, 2026, covering the full length of version 1.4. Other activities announced for the update include Terminal Depths, Coal Lump's Treasure and Snap! Golden Crackshot, also running through November 11.
Limited Board changes
Hotta Studio also announced a change to how Limited Boards work: all Limited Boards now share the same S-Class character pity counter, the same Points Gift progress and the same Board Modification progress. Skin Perks progress is still tracked separately for each board, but it carries over between boards that share the same name.
What it means for players
For players already pulling on gacha banners, the shared pity counter across Limited Boards is the most direct change: progress toward a guaranteed S-Class character no longer resets every time a new board appears, which should reduce how much players need to spend to reach pity across consecutive updates.
Explorers get the most new content, with Pukaland turning a previously locked area of the map into a full destination with its own event, plus a new Location Anomaly in St. Arbor and fresh Anomaly Commissions scattered around Hethereau. Combat-focused players gain two new playable Espers, Blackbird and Akane Rin, each built around different Arc types, which adds two more team-building options for both story content and endgame activities.
Because version 1.4 has not launched yet as of this writing, none of these systems can be evaluated in practice. Everything above reflects what Hotta Studio and Perfect World Games showed and described in the September 16 preview broadcast, not confirmed in-game behavior after release.
What's next
Version 1.4, "For Whom the Verses Mourn," is confirmed to launch on September 30, 2026. The Pukaland Travelogue and the other version 1.4 events are scheduled to run through November 11, 2026. Hotta Studio has not announced details for the update that follows version 1.4.
